Gertrude’s Vintage Riverfront Cabin is a one-of-a-kind historic 1930 cabin in the Mount Hood Wilderness nestled within a junior acre of enchanting old growth forest. With over 200 feet of private riverfront and just feet from the natural and rugged Sandy River’s edge, you will be soothed by the sights and sounds of the flowing river while you relax in your own private hot tub. Take a stroll on the trails that meander through the trees or relax under dappled sunshine on the spacious deck. Play a game of horseshoes or build a camp fire.
This fully restored vintage cabin has custom wood interiors, original antique furniture, Sandy River rock fireplace, charming kitchen, cozy enclosed sun porch and rustic rough-hewn deck. Gertrude’s Vintage Cabin is perfect for newlyweds, couples celebrating special occasions, small families and close friends. Come discover yourself again at Gertrude’s Vintage Cabin!
Where Gertrude’s Cabin had stood since 1929, owner Dan Johnson could only see piles of logs after the Sandy River floods in January 2011. Floodwaters swept the cabin away entirely. “You would’ve thought you’d find the fridge or the septic tank or the foundation, but there was nothing,” Johnson said. “It’s like the house was put into a blender, and it just munched it.”
We are back to reality (bummer) but I wanted to let you know that the cabin is adorable and we had a great time in the Mt. Hood and Portland areas. Thanks again for all your help!

Thank you so much for the perfect setting for our vacation. I wish so much we were back at Gertrude’s. I have to say it was the best vacation my family has ever had. You have made the cabin an oasis in time. My kids never once grumbled about the “no electronics” rule and actually had fun with one another. Your cabin is the perfect setting for a family and makes you feel so welcome. Thank you again for allowing us to stay there, it was perfect in every way.”
